Have to agree with both the above comments. Our grades went up from 16% to 63% to 94% in 3 years switching to the nationals. Yes -they're as boring or as interesting as you wish to make them. We are starting ours on unit 1 in Year 9 with the aim of offering them the more exciting stuff in y10 and y11

Hi there. We have a static website but gave it up in favour of putting everything on open access on the front page of our Moodle - we think doing that encourages pupils and parents to use Moodle more - they're there so why not just do some work while you're at it? Take your point about SIMS integration though - we have the CLEO MIS upload tool for uploading users to Moodle, though in terms of other admin stuff we're starting with PARs in Sept. Still hopes for more in Moodle though

Hi Nick. I reckon we will stick with our three way solution. In a bizarre way it makes it simpler. If you want to get info about the school - go to the website. You want to hand in work - go to moodle. You want to know how well your kid is doing at school go to SLG. But saying all that, unless SIMs and Moodle start talking to each other I can see moodle being kicked into touch in the future.

seems you are at the same pint as our school...we bought into Kaleidos a few years back....have found it extremely hard to motivate staff in using it....we also started work on the website via Moodle with an intention to use this VLE at KS4 & KS5. We are now at a critical point, Kaleidos has a new version, much more web based....if we opt for this its £24,000 over 3 years and we say bye-bye to moodle....or we stick with moodle which we have recently had some success with....and save the money.....

Hi Dan

That'd be great. We are in year 2 of moodle use and have managed to iron out most of our network issues. In September we will be implimenting phase 2... whole school use of moodle. Our cunning plan is to abolish the shared area and thus make moodle the only viable option... will let you know how it goes.

Hi - came across your blog through Doug Belshaw's list - I'm also implementing a new moodle next year and would love to compare notes.

Hi, Nice to see another UK ICT Teacher blogging! For me, the OCR is the easier course, if taught in a spoon-feeding manner. If you want you can take the OCR criteria and write some really exciting and interesting Schemes of Work.

Like all courses, you get out what you put in. And if you put as much effort into OCR, as you do with you DIDA, then you will get good results and well rounded learners.

To put it into context, we started our Year 8's on the Unit 1 OCR Nationals this term and they found it fairly easy.

Now OK, we have an above-average catchment, but we pretty much abandoned the Dida course last year.

I suppose it depends whether you want grades or rigour...
